Research interests

Laboratory stress-strain-time behaviour of soils.

Deformation and strength characteristics of geomaterials

Ground improvement by compaction, mixing and addition

Earth dam safety

Vibration insulation and seismic microzonation

Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering

Major past academic experiences

bullet 1991-1992 undergraduate thesis under supervision of Prof. Filippo Vinale and Prof. Stefano Aversa focused on the set-up of a stress-path controlled triaxial cell.
bullet On 1992 research assistant at "Geotechnical Engineering Research Centre" of the City University of London, under the guidance of Prof. J. H. Aktinson and Dr. M.R. Coop, on the mechanical behavior of two boulder clays.

bullet 1993-1996 Ph.D. student under supervision of Prof. Filippo Vinale and Prof. Francesco Silvestri. Research activity devoted to study on influence of compaction and bentonite addition on the stress strain behavior of a silty sand.
bullet On 1995 visiting researcher at the Institute of Industrial Science of the University of Tokyo to partially develop his Ph.D. Thesis under the guidance of Prof. Fumio Tatsuoka.
bullet 1997-1999 Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Tokyo sponsored by the 'Japan Society for the Promotion of Science' (JSPS) under the guidance of Prof. Fumio Tatsuoka. Main target ofthe research activity were: 1) analysis of time effects on stress-strain behavior of soils; and 2) influence of initial water content and compaction energy on mechanical behavior of compacted soils
bullet

1996-2004 Temporary visiting researcher at the Department of Civil EngineeringUniversity of Tokyo and at the Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo for cooperative research activities on the stress-strain behaviour of soil.

bullet

1999-2005 Assistant Professor at the Department of Geotechnical Engineering, University of Naples Federico II.
